Baby Girl, a tan mixed-breed dog, was abandoned earlier this month in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She was left with a message saying that the owners could no longer care for the dog, as well as a backpack full of the dog’s treats, toys, and food, according to WFRV Local 5.
People were shocked by the dog’s abandonment. Kyle Rose Engelhardt, a nearby resident, said on Facebook, “Cannot believe someone could do this.”
Baby Girl was transferred to the Wisconsin Humane Society, where she was said to be “doing fantastic” in the stray hold. While many people were furious at the dog’s owners for abandoning her, the Humane Society expressed sympathy, stating the dog was loved and the owners could no longer care for her.
“It’s clear how much you cared for her, and we can tell you did your best while dealing with your medical issues and life struggles,” they wrote to the owner.
The owner, who wished to remain unknown, later justified her choice to abandon Baby Girl, claiming it was the most difficult thing she had ever done. The woman was homeless and undergoing chemotherapy, and she was unable to care for her dog while on the streets.
“It was the absolute worst. It was the most difficult thing I’d ever done, but I knew she’d be fine. She told WBAY that she would be picked up and kept safe.
“I’m hoping she finds a wonderful family.” She has earned it. Please forgive me and keep Baby Girl in your prayers. Make sure she’s all right.”
Her prayers have finally been answered: Baby Girl has found a new home.
The Wisconsin Humane Society announced on May 10 that Baby Girl would be available for adoption. They added that the dog had been diagnosed with canine diabetes and that her new owner would be responsible for her care.
