Although the ocean is magnificent, you won’t believe this homeless dog’s response when it sees it for the first time. So how did a chained, five-year-old German shepherd who was a homeless wind up having a fun day at the beach? Let me tell you about him… When Herschel was chosen to appear on Rocky Kanaka’s program Dog’s Day Out, which takes shelter canines out for the finest day of their lives, he was still residing in a kennel. In addition to receiving free hugs on his special day, he was able to see snow for the very first time.

The finest part of his day out was that it resulted in him being adopted by Kim, a woman who lived in Washington State. Herschel had to travel there, which made for an enjoyable drive. Herschel’s response to visiting the beach while on that trip was incredible. Herschel had many happy firsts since he had experienced a tragic past. He was locked in a backyard for 5 years before getting to the shelter. Even his teeth were damaged from biting on his chain since he was ignored and lived in a filthy dog house.

Herschel ran into difficulties because he never had a “good day” or anything even close to “typical” for a dog. For whatever reason, he ended up in a shelter, and despite being adopted twice, he was brought back each time. Herschel was cute and charming, but things didn’t look well for him. Since returned dogs are frequently deemed unadoptable. But after learning about his predicament, a charity called Adopt and Shop intervened to assist.

Rocky Kanaka became involved at that point. He decided to assist Herschel, give him the affection he needed, and assist in his adoption. Herschel experienced many firsts on his route to his new permanent residence, including his first enjoyable adventure, a burrito, and ice cream. However, Herschel’s exaggerated reaction to first seeing the water was the excursion’s high point. Herschel was so overjoyed that he was unable to contain his screams of joy. Herschel was bouncing up and down like a kid eager to put his claws in the sand.

They hurried to the beach where Herschel first encountered the surf. He dove into the water like a dolphin, and because of how much he treasured the experience, it seemed as though he had been missing it his entire life. Herschel is the loveliest boy, and we are so delighted that he let us share in a portion of his happy ending. We wish him luck in his new residence and anticipate seeing him at the beach more often.
