For entertainment, dogs have been known to pursue birds and other small animals. However, if the bird is larger than the dog, they may think twice! A pigeon and a Chihuahua puppy have created an odd connection, inspiring many others to aid animals in need. Both animals have mobility limitations, so they bonded at The Mia Foundation while recovering. Plus, they’re simply adorable together!

Lundy is a Chihuahua puppy who can’t utilize his back legs because he’s just two months old. Herman is an adult pigeon who, due to a brain injury, is unable to fly. Even though they were of two different species, they formed a bond unlike any other couple at the rescue. Because Herman is unable to fly, Sue Rodgers of The Mia Foundation tries to provide him with a change of environment regularly. Lundy arrived only a few weeks ago, and Herman has been at the rescue for approximately a year.

Rodgers had a hunch they’d get along OK. As a result, she allowed Herman and Lundy to share a furry dog bed. She expected them to simply rest beside each other and slumber, but it turned out to be even better! Herman and Lundy cuddled as if they’d known each other their entire lives, much to Rodgers’ amazement. Rodgers kept a watchful eye on them to ensure that they didn’t trouble one other, but it was evident that they were destined to be friends. It was true that all they wanted to do was cuddle.

Rodgers photographed the sweet couple and shared pictures on the rescue’s Facebook page. She thought it would just be a fun thing for her followers to see, but the response was incredible! Thousands of people quickly expressed their admiration for Herman and Lundy. Lundy and Herman’s images received 6 million views and 44,000 shares in just a few days!

People were not only awestruck by the gorgeous photos, but they also contributed significantly to animal rescue. So far, these viral photographs have earned over $6,000 for the rescue and inspired more people to adopt! “I believe the world needs wonderful stories, and when two species fall in love, it can only touch hearts,” Rodgers remarked.

Rodgers and the other staff members do everything they can to bring Lundy and Herman together. When the two are together, they are, of course, always supervised. They, on the other hand, can’t get enough of each other’s company! The lovely puppy and pigeon are still being updated by the rescue. They’ve even set up an Instagram account for them! They announced the release of a children’s book by Lundy and Herman on Instagram. Hopefully, their story will demonstrate to the rest of the world that true friendship knows no bounds.

Please give to The Mia Foundation if you want to support animals like Lundy and Herman! They specialize in rescuing and healing animals with congenital abnormalities.
