30-year-old Jordan Kahana always had a passion for exploration, but no journey sticks out in his memory more than the day he came across two abandoned puppies while driving across the Arizona desert. Kahana was traveling by car from Los Angeles to Colorado to visit friends for the New Year’s vacation in late December 2016. He discovered the two puppies along a desolate section of the Arizona highway, saved them, and took them immediately to the closest veterinarian.

Although they were otherwise healthy, the two eight-week-old puppies required treatment for severe dehydration. Upon being freed, Kahana decided to bring them along with him and reasoned that, if necessary, he could find them a place to live in Los Angeles. However, Kahana and the two puppies very quickly became close, and they haven’t been apart since.

After the town he had just left before he discovered them, Kahana gave the female the name “Sedona.” He gave the male pup the name “Zeus” because he loved Greek mythology and thought the male’s white markings looked like lightning. Now known as the “Adventure Squad,” Kahana, Sedona, and Zeus are an epic trio traversing North America.

In Los Angeles, Kahana used to work as a digital director. He had intended to resign from his position in March of that year to travel to Bali and see where his feet would take him. This was due to a serious case of wanderlust. But he had to adjust his plans after the two puppies entered his life. He, therefore, decided to quit his work and travel domestically instead of concentrating on foreign locations. Zeus and Sedona might then be his regular companions as a result.

Since then, The Adventure Squad has been on the road constantly! Nowadays, Kahana relies on his freelancing employment to sustain himself and his two mutt family members. They have hiked through numerous national parks and drove more than 30,000 miles across 35 states and some sections of Canada. They also aren’t slowing down! Over 175,000 people follow Kahana’s Instagram account, where he posts lovely pictures of their travels. Additionally, he uploads recordings of their encounters to their YouTube channel, which has over 42,000 subscribers as of this writing.

Kahana learned through DNA testing that Zeus and Sedona are a Border Collie and German Shepherd mix. He has never figured out how the two ended up in the desert, although it appears that abandoned animals had been discovered in the same spot before. The two were fortunate to be saved from such dangerous circumstances, but Kahana thinks a good fortune was entirely his.
