This is the story of Liza, a lovely dog. The poor girl had a difficult childhood. Her mother was abandoned by her family while pregnant and was taken to a shelter shortly before giving birth. Liza and her brothers were born as stray puppies with uncertain fates.

The puppies were born in bad health, and the shelter staff didn’t know if they’d make it. They did, however, gradually but steadily improve over time. Liza developed to be healthy and enthusiastic throughout the first 13 weeks of her life. Not only that but she was adopted by Debi Kolak and given a forever home. Debi’s second dog, Mona, quickly became Liza’s best friend.

Unfortunately, Liza’s life was left with a gap when Mona died tragically. Liza’s life was left with a void as a result of her loss. Debi, on the other hand, moved in with a boyfriend who had two older dogs not long after. Debi thought this would be beneficial to Liza by introducing her to new people. Regrettably, the three dogs never seemed to get along. Liza and the other canines were a long distance apart in age, and they may have been put off by her exuberance. Debi reasoned that Liza could require a new buddy who was more in tune with her erratic energy.

Debit was concerned that four dogs might be too many for their home, but she kept the possibility in mind. Ultimately, they decided to give it a chance in the hopes of filling the vacuum left in Liza’s life after Mona’s death. Liza was taken to the shelter by Debi to choose her new friend. Liza would make a new friend if she looked to bond with one of the dogs.

That day, Liza met a few dogs, but none of them had the same impact on her as a puppy named Murphy. Murphy, unfortunately, has had a hard time in the shelter. He’d been there five times, and three times he’d been adopted and returned. That had to be a sad experience for him. Liza might have detected something about him. In an interview with The Dodo, Debi describes Murphy as “sad… defeated-looking.” “On his skull, he had a huge scar. He didn’t run to the cage or bark. He just sat there, pressed against the kennel’s chain link… But his sorrowful look drew me in.”

“Liza and Murphy hit it off right away. The game was on after he rolled over for her! They ran and frolicked for about an hour, never displaying hostility and matching each other’s childlike exuberance. I had a feeling he was the one, and Liza had a feeling he was the one.” Debi’s boyfriend was still on the fence about adding a fourth dog to the family, but once he witnessed how well Liza and Murphy got along, he knew it was fate. Murphy got along with everyone in the family right away, and they are overjoyed to have him around.
“After only a few days with him, I can’t see why no one would give this dog a chance; he is incredible,” Debi said.
