We’d like to introduce you to Maverick, a dog with a large heart that enjoys making friends with both humans and other animals. “He is a wonderfully lovely dog. very affectionate, “The owner of Maverick, Lilly Ann Flores, tells The Dodo. On the other hand, Maverick does not take any chances when it comes to Halloween decorations. The other day, Maverick was at home in Texas with his family when he unintentionally got sight of some unexpectedly unsettling new visitors out front. It was a gathering of creepy(-ish) board fake cats.
It appeared that Flores had made the decision the night before to place the cats there to use them as Halloween decorations. Maverick, though, didn’t appear to have grasped the concept that this wasn’t supposed to be a particularly frightening situation. Maverick came to a complete standstill as soon as he saw the cardboard cats: Flores remarked, “When I turned back, he was standing motionless like that.”
“I died laughing. Way’s the first time I’ve ever seen him act like that.” It’s hard to know for sure what was going on in Maverick’s mind, but it looks like he’s “pointing,” an inclination some dogs have when they want to draw the attention of their humans to something interesting. To put it another way, Maverick was probably just making sure that his family was aware of the strange cat situation that was taking place in front of their house.
Thankfully, the cardboard cutouts did not represent any kind of danger. It’s just the Halloween season, that’s all there is to it. “I think the cats just took him by surprise,” Flores said. “I think that’s what happened.” No matter what, Maverick’s family will always have his back against frightening things, whether they are real or imagined, just as he will always have theirs.
