Marie Alexander, a senior from Inverness, Florida, and Sassy, a rescued dog, has always had a particular connection. They quickly grew close and supported one another in the nicest of ways, becoming inseparable. But for the 92-year-old woman, the tiny puppy turned out to be more than simply a friend and a furry therapist. She shows her capacity for heroism.

Marie went outside one morning to check the mailbox, but she stumbled and fell on the ground. To make matters worse, Marie left her phone inside the house, leaving her helpless and at the mercy of fate. Sassy, however, recognized right away that her owner needed assistance and moved in to attempt to provide it. While the devoted dog probably wouldn’t be able to pick Marie back up, she could certainly make enough noise to get someone’s attention and send help Marie’s way. And that’s what she did!

Marie told ABC Action News, “When I started to go up on a walkway, my foot twisted and I immediately tumbled backward. She chased after every vehicle that went by. Every time, Sassy approached me, laid down next to me, and licked my face. Sassy stayed by Marie’s side for almost five hours, barking and following every automobile that went by. Despite being worn out from the heat, Sassy and Marie remained strong. Eventually, the dog’s heroic efforts were rewarded when a couple heard her and went to see what was causing her furious barking.

Thank goodness, assistance came quickly, and Marie was rushed straight to the hospital. She had bruised ribs and was severely dehydrated, but she will soon get better. All because of her fiercely devoted feline companion! The woman added, “I saved her in the shelter and she saved me.” “Animals deserve more respect from people,”
