Bringing a new person into the family is not always simple. But meeting his new kitten sister made the day for Martin, a rescue dog.
Martin wasn’t used to being alone, even though he was the only pet in the home when the new kitten arrived. Alma, his Labrador sister, and his greatest companion went away just a year ago. Because Alma wasn’t there, Martin experienced some despair, according to Emilia Ivan, Martin’s mother, who spoke to The Dodo. “He was depressed and alone.”

Ivan felt she had to give the small cat home and the attention she deserved when she learned that she had been left in a neighboring field. Ivan was first apprehensive to meet Martin and introduce him to the new kitten. The first night they met, though, it was “love at first sight,” as Ivan put it. Martin immediately cuddled the kitten and gave it lots of wet licks during their initial encounter. Ivan said, “He took care of her.”

Ivan and her boyfriend brought home the first kitten not long after discovering a second kitten, this time abandoned in their yard. Ivan stated, “We believe she was left there by someone who noticed that we had another kitty. She was afraid and alone herself.

Martin gave the second kitty an equally hospitable welcome. Martin is one of the primary caregivers for the kittens in his household, where they have integrated perfectly. Ivan remarked, “He pays a lot of attention to them and looks after them. “He acts like they are his daughters and that he is their mother.”

Martin’s grief has been somewhat lessened by the kittens, as Ivan and her partner have also observed. He almost looks appreciative of them, Ivan remarked. Their love for Martin has grown in unexpected ways as a result of observing Martin engage with the kittens. Ivan remarked, “I’ve always adored Martin, but now when I see how attentive and loving he is with the kittens, it’s beautiful.
