Curtis Culver and his brother organize a trekking trip to Grand County, Colorado, every year. Stella, Culver’s dog, typically comes along. This was their 20th year on the trip, but it was the first time they met severe weather. The three of them had to flee a severe snowstorm, but Stella bolted in terror as rescue arrived. As he was forced to leave her behind, Culver panicked.

Stella survived five days in the frigid Colorado Rockies thanks to her intelligence and resourcefulness. She was relieved and ready to take the longest nap of her life when aid finally arrived.
Culver and his brother were well aware that their journey would include some snow. However, what was planned to be three inches became six to ten inches. So they asked for assistance, and rescuers arrived as soon as possible. But, during the chaos, Stella bolted. The weather made it too dangerous for Culver to stay and search for the puppy.

“In the 18-degree weather prediction, my brother and I weren’t confident enough in our fire starting and sustaining ability,” Culver added. “It was just the emptiness you get inside knowing you’re not going to leave with all the lives you brought.”
As a result, the search and rescue team was able to save the brothers but had to leave Stella behind. After making the appropriate preparations, the team went to the mountain and began climbing the 14-mile trail in search of Stella.

It took approximately four hours for rescuers to arrive at the campsite where Culver had stopped. Stella was located five days after she ran away, not far from the campsite. Despite everything that had happened to her, she appeared to be doing well.
Culver was pleased when he saw her for the first time in five days. He ran over to her and hugged and kissed her. She’s now back in the comfort of her own home, getting as much pampering as possible. She’s also getting some much-needed rest.

Culver stated, “I love her.” “Honestly, if I could take her anywhere, I would.”
Stella wore a backpack with her meals and snacks inside while she was alone. During her time alone, Culver believes she discovered a way to get at the food. It’s incredible what dogs can accomplish when confronted with a difficult scenario!
