The sound of a dog’s howl is so evocative. Definitely one of my favorite musical styles. And judging by the recent viral success of a UK-based doggie crooner, I’m sure many others feel the same way.
On the social media platform Twitter, Victoria Fox, the owner of a food blog named “Best Recipes UK,” published a video of that dog. In the video, a 1-year-old Golden Retriever and opera legend Luciano Pavarotti execute a stunning operatic duet. So when Pavarotti performs “Nessun Dorma” on TV, Hugo joins in the singing from his living room.
Hugo enjoys this type of activity. According to Fox’s tweets via @BestRecipesUK, “Pavarotti is his favorite operatic performer.”
There is no doubt in my mind that Hugo enjoys the finer things in life. To be fair, he may also sing along to songs from other genres, but such performances did not go viral the way this one has. Then again, his voice is so beautiful that it should be enough.
Hugo gets closer to the television as the music gets louder. He wags his tail enthusiastically and sniffs the screen when he hears the final syllables. Because of the adorable reaction, I’m ready to guess that opera music is played frequently in this household.
As a result of the success of Hugo’s first operatic performance, he was even mentioned in the news. That was something he enjoyed seeing on television as well. Dogs can react to what they see on television, even if they don’t “watch” in the same manner that people do. They can recognize the noises and shapes on the television.
Even though he’s an excellent musician and a well-loved member of our family, Hugo is much more. As a member of Fox’s team on the Best Recipes UK website, Hugo is recognized. She explains:
“He’s my trainee taste tester since he’s a foodie at heart.” His favorite dishes are beef stew, cottage pie, and lamb roast, and no one has ever complained about them.
Hugo enjoys the beach, cuddly bears, and cuddling in addition to singing and eating. To him, nothing beats quality time with his mother.
