When most people think of a guard dog, they think of a huge breed that is famed for its ability to protect. Adopters of toy breeds typically don’t expect much more than endless cuddling. However, one family was taken aback when they discovered that their Yorkie was a guard dog.
Bella, a little Yorkshire Terrier, has no fear. She will not allow anyone to harm her loved ones, no matter how powerful they appear to be. The adorable dog recently went viral after scaring away a grizzly four times her size. She has no regrets and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

A bear broke into a family’s yard in Hibbing, Minnesota, in June 2021. The monster was caught in the act by a camera mounted above the bird feeders. Even though he appeared to be a baby bear, Bella the Yorkie could sense he was a danger. The tiny dog was recorded on a security camera charging at full speed toward the bear.
The bear bolted and climbed up the nearest tree as soon as he noticed the vicious guard dog charging toward him. To make sure the bear didn’t have any ideas, the Yorkie waited at the base of the tree. The bear climbed higher every time the Yorkie placed her paws on the tree trunk. It was similar to a human’s behavior when a spider approached them.
“When Bella, our Yorkie, was let out for the first time of the day, she went berserk. She had chased a baby bear up a tree, I shortly discovered. Bella’s human claimed, “I was phoning and attempting to persuade her away from the situation off-camera.”

Bella fled off-screen for a minute until her owner finally grabbed her attention. The bear took advantage of the opportunity to leap from the tree and flee at full speed. When Bella noticed the bear fleeing, she chased him down until he was safely out of her yard.
Fortunately, neither animal was hurt, but Bella felt extremely proud following that encounter. She demonstrated that dogs do not have to conform to breed definitions and maybe whoever they want to be. Bella decided she wanted to be a security dog and proved she was capable of doing so.
Bella’s family is aware that wildlife does occasionally appear in their yard, so they take extra precautions. Nonetheless, until a protective Yorkie arrived, this bear seemed adamant about finding something to eat.

“I set up this camera to capture the occasional wildlife that visits our bird feeders, especially at night.” “I bring the feeders in for the night, but there are always some remnants on the ground,” a family member of Bella’s stated.
Bears, like any other animal, may be harmful. Not all of them will escape the scene in the same way that this one did. Even if you have a fearless dog like Bella, make sure they are always safe from wildlife.
